Spring is in the Air!

With the weather warming up and the sun occasionally showing his face, I think it's time to get the Harley out of hibernation!  We need to start practising regular long journeys to get conditioned for the Big Trip in September.  We also need to have a few practice "packs" to see what we will be able to take with us - I think it will take a few attempts to whittle down our luggage from "everything but the kitchen sink" to "nice to have" to "essential to take".  With only 2 saddle bags and a luggage rack I think it will take a few practice runs to get down to the final list.

We've also got to work out how to get our "stuff" there - whatever bags we use to get to the USA we're either going to have to take with us (taking up valuable space) or leave in Chicago - perhaps we can just wrap our kit in a couple of bin liners or cardboard boxes?!  I'm hoping to pre-position a suitcase or 2 in San Diego for us to pick up after Phase 1 (Route 66), as we'll then be travelling by car for Phase 2 (PCH) and space will not be at a premium.

The company we're hiring the Harley from (H-C Travel) have provided a very useful guide for motorbike tours and how to prepare, what to take, etc, which looks like it will be very helpful.

  1. If one of your practice runs brings you our way, your most welcome to call in and stop.
How will you pre-position stuff in San-Diego?
Just asking as I have a friend who has been transferred there for work for the next couple of years.

    1. That's very kind - thanks. We'll let you know if we come your way. When does your friend move to SD? It would be ideal if they could take an empty (or virtually empty) bag over there for us.
