Happy Easter to all our readers! It's a bit of a quiet time on the Road Trip front as we are over in France for the Easter period. I think I may have mentioned before that Jilly and I have a business in France called Razay Holiday Cottages. We have 3 holiday cottages or Gites that we let out over the summer months. We are based in the Loire Valley, not far from the city of Tours, in Central France.
We have been running the business for more than 10 years now (this year will be our 11th summer). Up to now we have been running it "remotely" in that we have been based in England and Jilly has spent the summer out here managing the place and looking after the guests, with Me travelling over as often as work allows to assist. I retire from the Royal Air Force in October (hence the reason for our celebratory Road Trip/trip of a lifetime), so from next year we will be living over here full time. Hopefully things should be a lot more manageable then, as it is very hard work trying to look after and maintain 4 large properties and 15 acres of land during a few weeks a year and from a distance.
One of the most frustrating things is the grass! At this time of year, whenever we are here we seem to have to spend all our time getting the grass under control! The last time we were here, in March, we were able to get an early cut done. However, we are back only a month later and the grass is almost knee high again! It takes about a week to get it all back under control and looking good, so we shall have a few days of having the place looking great before we return to England and when we come back in 3 weeks time we shall probably have to start all over again! Next year it shall be so much easier.......
On the plus side, the weather is fantastic, the spring flowers look great and we are both getting a great tan!

Practice Run
Jilly and I had great little run out on the Harley this weekend just gone. We didn't go far, just up to Rugby, but we stayed away overnight so it was a useful exercise to see what we could fit in. I know it was only 1 night as opposed to 21 nights but considering we were carrying a few bottles of wine with us, we were able to carry a fair bit of kit in just the saddle bags, so that's given us a bit of confidence that we should be able to fit in what we need on our Road Trip!
We had a great weekend, stayed in a nice little hotel, had a lovely evening with some friends who took us to a great pub (excellent wide selection of ales and rugby on the TV!) and fed us some fabulous Mexican food. Then we met up for lunch with an old school friend of Jilly's whom she hadn't seen for about 30 years. And on top of that, we didn't get wet, despite an unpromising forecast. So, all in all a great weekend and a useful practice run!
