More Songs for the Road
So, we've got a bit of a playlist for the Route 66 phase of the journey - now for the Pacific Coast phase. Any suggestions or ideas? Here's a few to get you thinking:
"Balboa Park" - Bruce Springstein
"Surfin' USA" - The Beach Boys
"Hollywood Nights" - Bob Seger
"San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)" - Scott Mackenzie
"Let's Go to San Francisco" - The Flowerpot Men
"Ventura Highway" - America
"Twin Rocks, Oregon" - Shawn Mullins
"September in Seattle" - Shawn Mullins
It's not so easy to think of songs relevant to or mentioning the Pacific Coast, particularly outside of California - can anyone come up with any more?

Songs For The Road
8 months today we shall be on our way to Chicago, from where we shall start our journey down Route 66 and across to the West Coast. It still seems like a long way off but I know that it will pass really quickly.
Jilly and I have been coming up with suitable songs for the journey. There are some very obvious ones, for example: "(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66". Here's a list to start you off:
"Chicago" (Frank Sinatra)
"24 Hours from Tulsa" (Gene Pitney)
"Is this the Way to Amarillo?" (Tony Christie)
"Gimme a 'T' for Texas" (Lynard Skynard)
"Take It Easy" (The Eagles) (Standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona....)
"Viva Las Vegas" (Elvis Presley)
"Santa Fe" (Bon Jovi)
"All I Wanna Do" (Sheryl Crow) (Until the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard...)
"California Dreamin'" (Mamas & Papas)
"It Never Rains in Southern California" (Albert Hammond)
"LA Woman" (The Doors)
"Lullaby" (Shawn Mullins) (She grew up with the children of the stars in the Hollywood hills and the boulevard...)
"Hotel California" (The Eagles)
I'm sure you can come up with more - send us your suggestions and we'll see how long this list can become....

Happy New Year!!
Happy New Year everyone!!!
I hope 2014 is going to be as exciting for you as it is for us. It's hard to believe that in only 8 months we will be starting our road trip and that in a little over 10 months I shall have left the Royal Air Force! And at the end of this year we shall be starting our new life in France!
